DESCRIPTION
This limited-release coffee is grown in the rich volcanic soil near the base of Mount Ramelau, the highest point in East Timor. The cooperative that produces this coffee was founded in the wake of the destruction of much of the country after it gained independence from Indonesia in 1999. Exceptionally smooth and bright with a full, clean body, this coffee has a sweet aroma with notes of dark molasses and butterscotch.
With the premium Fair Trade price the co-op members receive, they have been able to:
- Provide a healthcare program that includes the
formation of nine stationary health clinics and 24 mobile health clinics. The
clinics see an average of 18,000 patients per month. In addition, services are
provided free of charge to all cooperative members.
- Establish a business skill development program
that provides members with training in bookkeeping, management, English
language, and computer skills.
- Purchase equipment, including the upgrade of six de-pulping machines and eight fermentation vats.
This coffee is Fair Trade Certified by TransFairUSA, Organic Certified by the Washington State Department of Agriculture and grown in shaded conditions by small farmer cooperatives.
All of our coffee is roasted to order and shipped fresh daily. We package in air-tight, foil-lined bags with one-way degassing valves to preserve freshness.
